Favorite Cookbook
To answer an inquiry from la_sherazade on favorite cookbooks I decided that my favorite is the first cookbook I ever picked up.

On a visit to my father and his new young bride, my step-mother, I picked up her shiny new copy of Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook. I became enchanted and mesmerized by the full page color photos of food. It was my first experience with food porn. I lusted after the beautiful cookies and desserts. Pies and cakes had their own sections. The icing on the cakes were the stuff of dreams. The baked alaska was a marvel. Cooked ice cream, who would have thunk. I picked up that book over and over again.

In the early days my step-mother's cooking was not so good. Her chocolate chip cookies would vary from hard crunchy balls to a flat melty blob. She is now a wonderful cook. She makes amazing pies and whole meals without looking at a recipe.

P.S. She still has that cookbook. It has been well used.

Interesting...so far the old classics and family-made books are "winning"!
