To the Writers and Artists et al.
I have a lot writers and artists on my friends list and I was wondering if anyone does/has done the "daily 3 pages" exercise in The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron.

If you have heard of or read the book, what do you think of it in general?

Do you ever read authors on writing like Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird or Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down the Bones?

In general, what inspires you to write?

I've done it. I'm not sure what I think about it still though.

I LOVE Anne Lamott. I've read Bird by Bird a couple times, even though I'm not a writer.

I've read all three & done the Artists Way incl. pages. I did like the morning pages, I think they're good but often find that it takes more time than I have overall for writing. If I could do them and then jump into a morning of work, that would be great. Usually all I have is 30- 40 minutes, so...

Overall I didn't find that the AW was quite right for me because I feel like my self esteem around writing is pretty solid. I am just undisciplined. But my friend- we did the book in a little threesome- really loved it, esp. the exercises and felt like she got a lot out of the process.

Anne Lamott & Natalie Goldberg are both amazing. I love them.

I love *all* the books that you mention above! I have been looking for an online Artist's Way group for a long time now, though, and the ones I find are all defunct. Goldberg's 'wild mind' is great, too.

Another book about the craft of writing that I find inspirational is Noah Lukeman's book 'The First Five Pages.' It's excellent. He really gets right to the point. Very helpful for re-writes.
