San Quentin in the 1950s  

In the 1970s my dad worked at San Quentin California State Prison. My step-mother gave me his briefcase and some of his personal notebooks. There were some old 8x10 photos of the prison in his briefcase.

This photo is the most interesting. On the back: Date Aug. 1 1957; old spanish cell block "senior citizen cell". Built 1890 and demolished 1958.

Cozy indeed - when I was a student I paid rent for rooms worse than that!
