Berkeley - Indian Rock and Farewell to Cody's
Today we drove to Berkeley.

On a whim we went to an estate sale on Arlington Avenue. It was in a gorgeous old house with the original hardware, the woodwork unpainted, amazing view of the bay. *sigh*

When we were done with the estate sale we walked to an open house about a block away. Sadly, this house had been remodeled. Walk into any new upscale subdivision and that what it looked like. All the period elegance and charm had been remodeled out of it. (There really ought to be a law).

On our way back to the car, Jim spotted a pubic path between some houses. we took the short walk to an huge rock in a tiny neighborhood park. It is what I call a Berkeley hidden treasure.

We then went to Cody's Books on Telegraph Avenue for a farewell visit. they are closing the Telegraph store in July.

Finally, we stopped by the 4th street Cody's where I bought Kingdom Coming The Rise of Christian Nationalism, by Michelle Goldberg. From the back cover: "eye-opening exposé of the ongoing takeover of our country by right wing Christians..." -Katha Pollitt. From an interview I hear on the radio with the author, she went into churches and read their literature, listened to their sermons and interviewed the leaders and their flocks. This isn't about the average born again evangelical christian. These are people that want dominance. "The movement is built on a theology that asserts the Christian right to rule".

It sounds like the christian taliban to me.
